Cabinet Inform project

The Cabinet Inform mural project (pictured below first in its final form with progress pics after) was a residency taken on at a new business in Glasgow UK called the No1 Chocolate Factory. The space is a large cafe where kids and adults come through in groups to do workshops and make objects out of liquid chocolate using form fitting molds and craft techniques. The idea was to design a large scale illusion of shelves to paint on the wall and fill with images of 'objects' gathered from guests who stopped to say hi, and friends also. In collecting these fragments, the content of the mural would become an archive of memories from coincidental community conversations. Relics of form both supporting and probing the idea of projected perspective. In the end most of the 'objects' were offered up by kids, some from adults and many from travelers visiting Glasgow. The manner in which the mural was resolved began to reflect the presence and reactions of these primary audiences. Though much of my studio research and work is as much about addressing the medium of painting itself as it does its own content, this project took on a less experimental aesthetic. although it could have gone further in different directions, it came to rest in what seems like a resolved state. It reached a phase of completion that realized a certain 'staging' of what was built up as a gradual, unknown puzzle. Questions about the nature of shifting repetitions, the monumentality of memories, anamorphism, and the inferences of juxtaposed informations all provided a sense of logic in my process as a collaborative design.  there are too many pictures, but i found it was hard to document as a presence or whole-
